4 signs it's time to quit your job Earnhire

We’ve all been there. We’ve all felt that dread while battling traffic on the way to and from work. We can’t sleep on Sunday nights, our minds racing with all sorts of ideas of how to escape work the next day. We always want to do something else, anything else, but we’re not 100% sure that we have to quit our jobs and find something else.

After all, everyone else at work seems happy, you have a job that pays well and you have a place to live.

Well, here are 4 simple signs that it’s time for a better job. But first, the telltale signs of a bonus: If you’ve made it this far in this article, you probably deserve a better job. If you’re reading this, somewhere deep inside you knows you could do better.

But for fun, let’s look at four signs that indicate you should get a better job.

1. You’re doing what you “should” do

Do you ever feel like you’re only doing what you “have to” do, instead of what you “want to” do? If the real reason you’re working is to appease your parents, impress your friends, or do what you think your great-great-grandfather would want, you’re not being true to yourself and you’ll soon lose your patience. It’s time to focus on what you want out of life and take action today to pursue it.

2. I’m extremely bored at work

There’s a difference between the occasional fun weekday at a boring job and working at a boring job all the time. If you’ve been dreaming of something better to escape the mind-numbing boredom, now is the time to make that dream a reality and find a job that’s fulfilling and plays to your strengths.

3. Your coworkers bring you down

The people around us have a huge impact on our lives, often more than we realize. So if you’re struggling to get along with your team, picking up the bad habits of your coworkers, or wanting to get away from them as soon as possible, that’s a pretty good sign you could be better off elsewhere.

4. Answering this question “no” for days in a row

Here’s the really big, final, definitive sign. This is an excerpt from Steve Jobs’ famous Stanford University commencement speech:

“When I was 17, I read a quote that made a big impact on me: ‘If you live each day as if it were your last, one day it will be true.'” She continued, “That quote made a big impact on me. For the past 33 years, I’ve looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: ‘If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?’ When the answer is no too many days in a row, I know I need to make a change.”

That’s powerful.

These signs may have helped you accept the fact that it’s time for a change, but as you know, it’s easy to know it. What’s much harder is to get clarity on what to do and have the courage to do it.
