Robert Walters is a global recruitment firm that has been supporting candidates and organisations in the Queensland market for over 20 years and internationally since 1985. Its core focuses span technology and transformation, finance and accounting, marketing and communications, HR, procurement, sales and engineering.

What changes do you think we will see in the recruitment industry over the next 12 months?

As the job market continues to evolve, it’s important for both job seekers and employers to stay ahead of recruitment trends. With a growing economy and diverse industries, Brisbane is seen as an attractive location for both businesses and job seekers. Brisbane in particular is a popular and affordable place to relocate to compared to other Australian states, with an overall growing returning talent pool. Additionally, it’s an exciting time for Brisbane with a number of generational infrastructure projects, renewable energy transition goals and the 2032 Olympic Games.

As businesses continue to invest in digital transformation, the demand for professionals with tech skills will continue to grow. Roles such as software developers, data analysts and cybersecurity professionals will be in high demand. With Brisbane’s growing reputation as a technology hub, job seekers with these skills will have ample opportunities to showcase their expertise and secure opportunities.

While technical skills remain important, there is growing recognition of the value of soft skills in the workplace. Brisbane employers are placing more emphasis on qualities such as communication, adaptability and problem-solving ability. Job seekers who can effectively demonstrate these skills will have a competitive advantage in the job market.

Diversity and inclusion have become key priorities for many organizations, and this trend will continue. Companies are recognizing the importance of creating an inclusive work environment that embraces diversity in all its forms. Over the next 12 months, we expect to see increased focus on diversity recruiting strategies, including targeted recruiting efforts and unconscious bias training.

In a competitive job market, companies are realizing the importance of employer branding and providing a positive candidate experience. Companies are investing more in promoting their company culture, values, and benefits to attract top talent. Moreover, streamlining the hiring process and providing a frictionless candidate experience is crucial in securing the best candidates.

With rapid technological advancements, upskilling and reskilling become essential for both job seekers and employers. Companies are increasing their investments in training programs to upskill their existing employees, while job seekers need to adapt and acquire new skills to stay competitive. Continuous learning and development plays a key role in career progression.

Brisbane’s hiring landscape will experience some major changes over the next 12 months. Remote work opportunities, demand for technical skills, emphasis on soft skills, diversity and inclusion, employer branding and upskilling initiatives will shape the job market. Job seekers who are aware of these trends and proactively adapt will be well positioned to seize exciting career opportunities in Brisbane’s vibrant economy. Likewise, employers who embrace these trends will be able to attract and retain top talent in this competitive job market.

What is one piece of advice you would give to employers?

Improve the candidate experience. Your hiring process should be smooth, transparent, and respectful. Simplify the application process, provide timely updates, and offer constructive feedback. A good candidate experience leaves a lasting impression and helps build a talent pipeline for future positions.
