About Us

HyperionDev is one of the largest providers of accelerated tech education in EMEA and one of the oldest “coding bootcamp” providers in the world. We partner with top universities such as Imperial College London, London School of Economics, University of Edinburgh and Stellenbosch University to deliver structured technical courses and bootcamps to accelerate people into fulfilling tech jobs. We are recognised as one of the top edtech scaleups in the world and are funded by Meta (formerly Facebook), who recognises us as the number one social impact startup in Africa, where we originally launched.

We are committed to closing the global tech skills gap and we do this by integrating technical education with South African workforce and human mentoring and expert code review, thereby lowering the cost of access to technical education. This model has been successful, reaching millions of learners from over 60 countries annually. We also partner with government organisations such as the UK Department for Education, who offer scholarships to students to study at our bootcamps and then go on to work for companies such as AstraZeneca and the UK’s National Health Service (NHS).

We’re backed by nearly 2,000 investors and have raised the largest crowdfunding round ever for an EdTech company. As a primarily bootstrapped, profitable scale-up technology company, we hope you’ll join us as we help make the world a more stable, safer, and fairer place.

About the role

Our coding instructors have a niche skill set that blends technical coding skills with teaching/mentorship abilities.

To excel in this role, you must be excited by the prospect of contributing to a better world of writing code. You must be passionate not only about coding and technology, but also about introducing new learners to the power and possibilities of programming. You must have a strong desire to improve the quality of coding education and be motivated to see students succeed, knowing that your work is making a real impact on their lives.

Coding is one of the hardest skills to master and this is a great opportunity to help close the tech skills gap in South Africa. Perseverance, very good verbal and written communication skills and advanced technical knowledge are essential qualifications for this role. You should have a proven track record of helping students learn to code as a peer mentor, school teacher, university lecturer or online tutor.

In addition to teaching students to code on campus (full-time or part-time), you will also have the opportunity to partner with top coding education providers around the world to provide professional code reviews to international students and technical teams. This will include feedback on the code’s quality, structure, efficiency, and compliance with regulations. This is a much deeper level of review than simply marking submitted code as “right” or “wrong.” Coding educators will be given ongoing professional development opportunities to progress along a structured growth path and specialize in specific software development tracks over time. You will also have the opportunity to partner with elite partners around the world on the latest technology stacks, learning from and working with the best of global technology.
