Our main campus is in Sydney, Australia, but we work with contractors and freelancers all over the world to achieve our big goals. As a contractor or freelancer at Canva, you can work remotely in any country listed in this job ad, giving you ultimate flexibility. What works for you is what works for us.
What you will do in this role
We are looking for a passionate SEO copywriter to help us scale our next phase of growth in Japan. With the support of our SEO team in Japan, you will research and create high-quality content following a precise content strategy. Based on your capabilities and availability, you will regularly write, submit and optimize an agreed amount of articles each month. You will have access to a range of best-of-breed enterprise-level third-party tools, plus several in-house built platforms and products that help with world-class SEO.
The bulk of the job will be SEO, content and competitor research, and writing long-form articles for Canva’s Japanese blog/website. You will be inspired by past successes of Canva’s global content marketing strategies. You will also be expected to provide high-quality content throughout your articles, following the guidance and feedback of our Japanese SEO team. Each landing page needs high-quality copy to match. The right candidate will be able to apply Canva’s tone and voice, incorporate the provided SEO optimizations into the copy, and work independently within deadlines.
As Canva scales, change will continue to be part of our DNA, but we think it’s all part of the fun, so this is just an outline of the type of work you’ll be working on at the start, but this will likely evolve.
Currently, this role is focused on:
- Create original, well-researched articles relevant to your designated landing page
- We ensure each output adheres to specified word counts and SEO requirements, and fits Canva’s friendly, informative tone.
- Consistently meets minimum required output by specified deadlines.
- You will work remotely and report to Canva’s Japan SEO team for copywriting projects.
- Consistently meets 90% of weekly output quality assessments.
It’s probably a good fit if the following applies to you:
- You are a native Japanese speaker with business level English skills.
- You have an excellent understanding of the Japanese language and a talent for technically competent, structured or creative writing styles (including spelling and grammatical structure).
- You pay careful attention to detail, style and tone, and you write with clarity and empathy to deliver the information you need.
- You need to be able to come up with ideas quickly and come up with original copy that will grab your audience’s attention, while still fitting in with Canva’s voice and brand guidelines.
- You are sensitive to social trends in Japan and the accompanying evolution of the language.
- You can understand the brief from your stakeholders, research accordingly, and translate that brief into great landing page copy that meets the needs of your project.
