Job Description

Duties
Under the supervision of the Manager, Payroll & Benefits, support the overall objectives of Joni and Friends’ Human Resources department. Perform duties and responsibilities including, but not limited to:

  1. Payroll Processing
    1. Accurately process payroll on a regular schedule, ensuring all employees receive their wages and benefits in a timely manner
    2. Verify and reconcile timekeeping data, deductions, and changes to ensure accurate calculations
    3. Advise staff of payroll deadlines and processes, communicating with employees and supervisor to ensure accurate time tracking
    4. Address payroll-related inquiries and discrepancies promptly and professionally
    5. Process wage garnishments as required by court/government order
    6. Maintain payroll worksheets and census spreadsheets
    7. Process employee change forms updating as approved in HRIS
    8. Complete payroll related journal entries and submit to accounting
    9. Assist in year-end audits for Worker’s Comp, EEO-1, EEO, CA Pay Data, Ohio True Up, or any other audits that arise throughout the year
    10. ADP new hire training
  2. Compliance and Record Keeping
    1. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations and tax laws
    2. Assist in preparing and filing payroll-related reports as required by government agencies
    3. Order annual employment posters, update posters due to mid-year changes, and maintain e-posters for remote employees
  3. Leave of Absence and Benefits:
    1. Assist with questions and tracking regarding Leave of Absence
    2. Aid employees with benefits questions and open enrollment
    3. Help with 401(k) enrollments, loans, and other transactions
  4. Administrative Duties
    1. Process employee terminations and ensure final pay and benefits are accurately calculated and processed
    2. Prepare exit letters and any required documents and send to terminating employees as advised
    3. Process SDI, UI, and PDL claims
    4. Complete employment verifications as requested and process NYSIF documents on an annual basis
    5. Process Registered Agent renewals and Annual Renewal Business applications
  5. Other duties and projects as assigned by supervisor to support department and organizational needs
Qualifications

  • Must possess a vibrant personal relationship with Jesus Christ and agree with the Joni and Friends statement of faith
  • Desire to serve in a growing and dynamic Christian service ministry
  • In-depth knowledge of payroll processing systems, HRIS, and timekeeping software
  • 3-5 years of Generalist experience that includes payroll processing. Multi-state payroll processing is desirable
  • Bachelor’s degree in HR or Business or active HR certification (SHRM or PHR)
  • Working knowledge of employment law, payroll regulations, and tax compliance
  • Working knowledge of employee benefits such as health insurance, COBRA, 401(k), etc.
  • Working knowledge of Leave of Absence such as FMLA, PDL, CFRA, SDI, and PFL
  • Familiarity with workers’ compensation (incident documentation and claims)
  • Ability to effectively organize and prioritize a wide range of daily tasks with varied deadlines are necessary
  • Must be meticulous, committed to accuracy, and self-starter who is flexible and able to work independently
  • Good interpersonal communication skills both verbal and written and the ability to effectively organize and prioritize a wide range of daily tasks with varied deadlines are necessary
  • Must be detail oriented, committed to accuracy, a team player and self-starter who is flexible and able to work independently
  • Must have a strong sense of confidentiality
  • Strong general computer skills are necessary along with a competent, working knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook and the Internet
  • Understanding of Christian ministry and specifically Joni and Friends is desirable

This is a hybrid position. In office Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, remote Wednesday and Friday. 
Compensation is $30-33 per hour, non-exempt.
