Job Description

One of our portfolio businesses, Roadside Lumber, is seeking an Outside Sales Representative to be responsible for generating new business and maintaining relationships with custom home builders and contractors. This role requires a self-motivated individual with a proven track record in sales, excellent communication skills, and a deep understanding of the construction industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sales Generation: Identify and target potential customers, including custom home builders and framers, to generate new sales opportunities.
  • Customer Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective customers to ensure satisfaction and repeat business.
  • Market Research: Conduct market research to identify trends, customer needs, and competitive landscape to inform sales strategies.
  • Product Knowledge: Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of our truss products, manufacturing processes, and industry standards to effectively communicate benefits to customers.
  • Sales Presentations: Prepare and deliver compelling sales presentations and proposals tailored to the specific needs of customers.
  • Negotiation: Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms with customers to close sales and achieve revenue targets.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the production, engineering, and customer service teams to ensure customer requirements are met and projects are completed on time.
  • Reporting: Maintain accurate records of sales activities, customer interactions, and pipeline status in the CRM system. Provide regular reports on sales performance and market feedback.
  • Travel: Travel within the assigned territory to meet with customers, attend industry events, and represent the company.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred but not required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of outside sales experience, preferably in the building materials industry – lumber, millwork, hardware, etc.
  • Strong sales, negotiation, and relationship-building skills. Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Deep understanding of the construction industry, particularly the needs and challenges of custom home builders and framers.
  • Proficient in the use of CRM software and Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to read and understand construction plans and blueprints is a plus.
  • Self-motivated, goal-oriented, and able to work independently. Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Willingness to travel within the assigned territory as needed.
