Job Description:

As project controller, you have financial oversight on a portfolio of federal government client projects. You work together with project managers and report directly to the vice president of accounting and vice president of delivery. You are a critical component of getting new projects off the ground quickly and setting them up for success from the start. The number of projects assigned will depend on the complexity, lines of effort, and number of employees on the given projects. Our ideal candidate is analytic, accurate, and works with a sense of urgency. They have a customer-service mindset when working with peers and supervisors, as well as clients. They have the ability to flow between different projects as well as the different versions of apps and software that the projects use.

The successful candidate will have the ability to:

  • Develop, implement, and monitor project budgets 
  • Review deliverables for quality and contract requirements before submission  
  • Maintain project schedules
  • Support project knowledge management (organization of files, access management, etc.)
  • Ensure project invoices are correct before submission to project managers
  • Create monthly financial reports at budget level  
  • Monitor project-employee timesheet submissions as well as travel expenditures and other expenses charged to the project
  • Support project kick-off to include managing the kick-off checklist, developing the schedule, establishing a plan for deliverable submission, and obtaining security badges for contract personnel 
  • Share knowledge with internal and external peers through writing and speaking opportunities 
  • Contribute to organizational capability by building reusable process assets, templates, and tools that improve the consistency of our services
  • Support business development by playing an active role in researching customer needs and the competitive environment as well as supporting proposal efforts.  

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ years professional work experience in a government contracting setting 
  • Trustworthy with personal, proprietary, and confidential information
  • High level of skill in Excel and a strong user of Microsoft Word and PowerPoint and Google equivalents
  • Strong understanding of how government contracting project budgets work
  • Understands how government contract and subcontract award and modifications work
  • Clear, confident communicator who uses correct tone and grammar when communicating with government clients.
  • Experience tracking schedules and budgets
  • Can engage with technology with comfort and ease (Power Point, Word, Excel, Teams, Monday, Slack, Mural, etc.)  

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CAPM or PMP certified  
  • Prior experience doing contract modifications alongside project managers  
  • Prior experience managing business travel in government contracting environment 

Job Location and Travel Expectations:

  • This position is remote. Some travel (25%) is anticipated.
  • Some meetings will be conducted on-site with customers in Washington, D.C.
