Senior Associate, Enterprise Risk Management – Control Methodology
Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) is seeking a Senior Associate to join Capital One’s Control Methodology team. This Senior Associate will have the opportunity to apply their risk management, quality assurance and process management skills to support driving Capital One’s continued stability and success in managing and maintaining an effective internal control environment. This role is focused on supporting our first and second line performers and stakeholders on the governance and application of our Enterprise Control Standard (“Standard”) methodology, requirements, and the reporting on the state of our control inventory. This role engages across our programs and practices, in support of our being well-managed, with particular focus in the areas of monitoring, training and guidance, tools and reporting, and our risk systems of record (“GRC”). The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated risk professional with strong process improvement, problem solving and communication skills, with focus on achieving short and long term goals. This Senior Associate will have the opportunity to engage and partner with risk program and practice owners, stakeholders and the risk community across the enterprise.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Monitor Standard adherence; partner with impacted groups to develop and implement solutions when opportunities are found
- Leverage monitoring, related risk data and program assessments to identify program enhancements, training and guidance improvements
- Execute portions of our control challenge process to drive timely identification of the appropriate second line challenger groups and submission of outcomes into our GRC
- Support our team in the development and delivery of training, guidance and related services to drive Standard adherence
- Be intellectually curious to question the obvious, explore options, and seek efficiencies and improvements
- Collaborate effectively with other risk programs and stakeholders (e.g. Operational Risk Management, Compliance, Business Risk Offices)
- Help support, where needed, special projects and engagements
- Support periodic updates and maintenance of the Business Continuity Plan
Basic Qualifications:
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent certification
- At least 1 year of experience in risk management, compliance, or standards governance
- At least 1 year of experience in process and controls management, process quality or audit
- Experience with Google Suite
Preferred Qualifications (in addition to above):
- Bachelor’s Degree or military experience
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- 2+ years of experience in the financial industry
- 2+ years of experience in controls development
- Strong problem solving skills and desire to continually expand their risk management knowledge
