Job Description

As Sr. Network Engineer I, you’ll have experience supporting all areas of secure network technologies in a dynamic operational IT environment onsite within the Department of State, including maintenance, provisioning, and deployment functions. The team member will use network monitoring tools to troubleshoot, analyze, and resolve technical problems. The team member will monitor ServiceNow tickets and network monitoring tools.

What you’ll do:

  • You will work with our Infrastructure team, which consists of other network engineers, systems engineers, mobile engineers, VDI engineers, and others to manage our client’s environment.
  • You will work with Cisco switch, router, and firewall infrastructure and technologies.
  • You will work hand-in-hand with our clients to solve mission-critical problems, by refreshing hardware, updating systems, monitoring networks, and providing engineering solutions for our client’s unique requests.
  • You will be part of a team that responds to after-hours and weekend requests and critical outages if our Tiered Help Desk team cannot solve them.

What you’ll need to succeed:

  • An active DoD Top-Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility.
  • 5 – 7 years of experience as a network engineer managing the provisioning, installation, and support of network communications, including LAN/WAN systems
  • 5 – 7 years of experience working hands-on with Cisco equipment and data center devices (switches, routers, firewalls, and intrusion detection or prevention technologies) and configuration of IOS upgrades using the command line input (CLI).
  • Understanding of network communications standards and concepts, including:
    • Physical layer media (copper, fiber, and media converters);
    • Ethernet (switching, spanning-tree, media access control (MAC) addressing);
    • TCP/IP (UDP vs TCP, subnetting, DHCP, gateway, access-control lists); and,
    • Higher-level protocols (DNS, IPSec, HTTP).
  • Experience with IP networking design and architecture.
  • Experience working with, analyzing, and troubleshooting VoIP systems, IP Protocols (SIP, H.323, etc.), and Cisco unified communications solutions.
  • Knowledge of network security and cross-functional security related to Voice Infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of hardware systems including servers, memory modules, processors, and peripherals.
  • Experience troubleshooting layer 2 network problems including port-security related problems.
  • An understanding of working in a secure federal environment.
