The Role:
The Cloud Platform Team is seeking an experienced Staff Software Engineer to lead and collaborate with engineering teams across General Motors to design, build and manage a cloud-based shared platform. We are seeking individuals who are passionate about emerging technologies in cloud computing and have experience in developing large-scale platforms capable of running hundreds of clusters with tens of thousands of workloads. Ensuring the reliability, availability, maintainability and performance are key drivers in meeting the needs of General Motors’ cloud platform.
What You’ll Do:
– Defines and leads corporate software strategy for new technology, highly complex features, or significant enhancements for current, new, or major programs.
– Provide, technical leadership to execution teams for development of resilient, high-performance solutions at scale.
– Leads comprehensive design analysis of design solution
– Automate repetitive tasks to increase efficiency and streamline operational tasks for management of the platform
– Leads integration and verification testing of an integrated software build
– Monitor system performance, availability and cost addressing potential issues proactively
– On-Call support ensuring timely resolution of platform incidents and conduct post-incident reviews to identify root cause and preventative measures
– Stays abreast of new technology and competitive products and defines GM direction.
– Provide, communicate, and support common best practices among software community
Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):
- 9+ years of software engineering and design experience in building and operating a public cloud platform supporting a global customer software and services offering
- Knowledge of operating system, networking and systems engineering management
- Experience with Container Orchestration (Kubernetes preferred) and Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform preferred)
- Advanced programming language proficiency in Java, Python or Go
- Expertise in end-to-end applications hosted on Kubernetes with a focus on scalability, high availability, and fault tolerance including the engineering of Operators and CRDs
- Experience in designing and engineering highly-available public cloud services (Azure, GCP and AWS)
- Experience with open-source, cloud-native products supporting complex applications and services (ex- Service Mesh, Service Discovery, Routing, Logging Infrastructure, CI/CD tools, etc.)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to effectively communicate and translate feedback, needs and solutions
- Creative problem-solving skills that deliver elegant solutions to complex issues
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent combination of education and recent, relevant work experience
Work Arrangement:
Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Austin, Mountain View, Atlanta, or Warren three times per week, at minimum.
- Compensation:
- The expected base compensation for this role is: $135,800- $285,300. Actual base compensation within the identified range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
- Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
